Hi all hope somebody can help me.

today I Received my Logitech Z506 5.1 surround system, I have to say the manual doesn't really help, anyway iv connected all the speakers ( colour coded connectors) to the back of the subwoofer

connected the Audio in cable ( cable A) to my front speaker out ( green socket on my motherboard audio)

and sound card cables ( cable b) to center/subwoofer speaker out and the rear speakers out on my motherboard audio)

Now my monitor ( the Asus VG248QE ) has built in speakers which I use and im sure I used to have the cable plugged into front speakers out connector which is now occupied by the audio in cable from the sub,

but I still want to use these two speakers on the monitor if I can, have I connected all my speakers to my sub ok or do you think I should be connecting some of them to my actual PC

I have the ASUS Sabertooth z77 motherboard running windows 7 if anybody needs to know,

thank you all

All of the speakers connect to the sub-woofer and then you connect the sub-woofer to the PC, job done.

Not sure how you can use the monitor speakers as well as the 5.1 and can't for the life of me think why you would want to unless they are instead of the centre speaker.

Hi

thank you no problem that's fine, I don't need to use the monitor speakers, just thought if they was their might had well use them. anyway
my speakers are working fine but iv noticed that in movies all the sound effects etc are loud like they should be but when people are talking its very low, can hardly hear them.

im guessing this is a normal for a 5.1 system but can you give me any advice on how I can change a setting or something so I can actually hear the people talk

thank you

Yeah, that's normal for 5.1. It's how they encode the audio when they create 5.1 tracks for movies. Not sure why they do that to be honest. I can understand trying to emphasise on the audio effects, etc; but if it means not actually being able to hear the speech that well, then....?

Does the onboard audio control panel have options to alter individual speak volumes? If not, then maybe the software you are using to play the video has in the audio options.

Hi iv had a lookm in sound settings and realtek HD audio manager and I annot see anything that can adjust speak solumes.
although in in realtek HD audio manager I can see that it says I havnt got side speakers plugged in, would this affect it?

Sorry, I meant volume controls for the individual speakers, not speech volume. 'Speak' was a typo. :o

Anyway, I am not surprised you can't alter the volumes for each speaker. It's something I can't recall having seen before when I have used onboard audio.

As for the side speakers. They are used in 7.1. They have no impact on speech at all though, as any side or rear speakers are only used for effects. Main audio and always comes from the front three, with the centre used for speech.

If the software has no options to alter the volume for each speaker, primarily the centre, then I don't know what else you can do but buy a sound card. A Xonar DGX would be a good choice. Cheap and has options to alter the volume for each speaker.

iv just been into Realtek HD audio manager and that has something called room correction

that allows me to increase the DBs from each speaker, so iv just put the centre speaker upto max ( +10db)

I don't understand about changing the distance things though if anybody can help me with that

Distance probably has something to do with distance between listener and speakers maybe. Probably linked to increasing the dB, I would have thought. Not certain though if that's exactly what it does.

dB stands for decibel, which in short is loudness, volume. Did you find increasing the dB of the centre speaker helped?

yes increasing the DB of the centre speakers helped with the voices in films, although it could be abit better
and suppose best get tape measure out I aint a clue how far the speakers are form me, they are all in front of me on my pc desk
