Hi there,

Yesterday, I picked up a Fuji FinePix S6500FD, a case and 2 GB SANDISK memory card for £200. I had been meaning to pick up a camera with a half decent zoom etc on it for quite a while. I'm also looking forward to getting more into the nitty-gritty of photography - eg aparture time etc, hopefully this camera will do the job quite nicely.

Obviously, having bought the camera on impulse, now is probably not the right time to be asking, but is the S6500 a reasonable camera?

I've got a few concerns regarding corrupted pictures etc. I've had two so far, in taking about 70 pictures, is this normal, or could I be looking at a faulty camera or memory card here? When I preview the pictures on the camera its self, they appear fine, when I view them on my PC, they are corrupt and different parts of the photo are displaced.

I took a photo of a steam train passing through my local train station (On the ECML/GNER Route). It was going so fast that I only managed to get one photo of it.

Unfortunately this was also corrupted, openable, but the different parts of the photo were mis-located. While moving it from my memory card to my PC (using PCs inbuilt xd card reader), the file became completely corrupt, and I am unable to open it full stop.

Are there any decent applications out there to repair corrupted jpgs etc?

Cheers

The corruption sounds like its your transfer method. Does the camera come with a USB cable? Use that instead.
The s6500 is a very well recommended camera. For the price you did well :)

i have just bought the same camera and havnt had any probs at all with it (touches wood) so it could well be what helium had suggested mate..

(edited coz i pushed go before i finished lol)

Well I've got the S5600 (think that's one model down, yeah?) and that's an excellent camera, so the S6500 should be pretty damned good as well. I've had two Fuji cameras now, and they've never let me down. Never had a corrupted picture, either. So far, I'd gladly buy another Fuji camera. :p

I wish people would be more considerate of other forum users and not post things like this. Your post may end up costing me £150  ;)

i know tell me about it

i've just found out the 6500 does RAW (the same as its bigger brother the 9500)
6.3 mp, 10x optical zoom, and RAW processing with 640 x 480 30fps constant video for £150

absolute stonker of a bargain. I cant really afford it, but the credit card is probably gonna get a bashing tonight !

the Other cameras i mentioned, the Ixus 70 and the Sony W80 are very much compact cameras. The Fuji is very much a bridge camera, and for £150 is a real bargain.

It also uses the same brilliant 6MP fuji sensor as the f30/31 so gives the best high iso performance outside of a dSLR. Although for some reason the jpeg processing is not supposed to be as good as the f30 so you need to shoot raw to get the full benefit.

Just have to send off a job application and then may walk down to the nearest store and have a look

Damn that is a good price, I've been thinking about buying an f31 I might be tempted by this instead at that price allthough I'm not sure the misses would approve!
