Bought a new House - New Build - Progress Thread

2 to 2.5Mb is what it's like. Not bad but not great. No 20mb services yet ;)

Whereabouts in Bedale is that out of interest?

Down masham road mate pretty much on the left hand side before the special school, you from Bedale?

What people seem to not realise, this is not a 1 off build, and as such a mass market house...the build time from start to finish is 10 - 12 weeks, hence the 'snagging' list will be out for some weeks after!

Get ready to have your Doorbell turn on all your lights and sockets to run of a 6A fuse :D.

j/k have fun, will watch this space :P

Is it too late for them to throw a couple extra half-baths in there? One on the middle floor seems like a bugger.

Fine with me...we mostly take showers so the en-suite in the bedroom is absolutly fine. The bathroom will hardly get used.

I'm currently having a house built too (David Wilson), and mine is due to be complete in September. Two bedrooms, two garages (one of which isn't mine). I've done the same as you and took photo's all along the way. It went from this in February:

I want to be positive but I really don't see yours being done in a month! :p

Have to agree with Ripper, new build here too and completing in September and all they have to do left on my house is the garage roof (Going on this week), the garden, and the kitchen appliances. They're taking the mick if they say they'll get yours done for September :|

^^ to stop people breaking in so easily, as it is a building site so would be quite quiet at night?

knock out bricks and then glaze later one?

I know mate it's quite annoying but apparently they can't legally put proper windows in as the garages aren't classed as normal rooms you could live in or something. God knows.

First thing on your snagging list should be a drop kerb so you can drive into your garage :D *I take it you drive through the arch*

I'd guess the planners wanted fake windows for consistency of some kind, but you wouldn't have a glazed window into a garage most likely due to building/fire regulations, especially with your property being directly above.

Why is the garage door on the back and you said someone else has one, what stops them working in it and keeping you up with the noise?

Common sense hopefully

The other garage belongs to the house nextdoor (which is currently a show home). It's meant for a car/storage only and doesn't have any electrical points (whereas mine does). Buyers have to sign an agreement to abide by this, and this agreement says that no loud mechanical work can take place in it.

All depends on the site plan and when they finish their phase numbers. Was in with the site manager yesterday and he said September not a problem. End of the day build plan is about 12 weeks from when they 1st put shovel to mud.

Have faith all :)

Except when they come home a 2am and put their car away in the garage. They can't be blamed for the noise the door makes. ;)

Another quick update:

This is how it stands as off last weekend:

They are still assuring me the house will be complete on 14th September. The way the other houses are going up I really do believe them!

Grandparents have given me and the gf £400 to go towards AV, so going to put it towards an amplifier & speakers. This helps me as it is £400 less I need to find for the projector! :)

...which is minor and lasts for all of <1second

Really considering building as house prices are a joke daaan saaf, mind you land is probably few and far between :(
