Hey all.
Went to see an MX5 yesterday that was perfect. It was not for sale but belonged to someone I knew, so was nice to see what a minter looked like. She paid £4200 for it. Ouch.

Today I picked up a 1992 1.6 MK1 Eunos, 105k miles, AC, leccy windows, Power steering. The bodywork requires minor TLC due to paint or the odd dint/scrape but is better than I expected for the age. There isn't any bubbling and the sills are intact, most likely due the car being imported in 2005. The underside of the car is very clean and is waxoiled. The hood looks like it was replaced very recently and is in A1 condition. It rained hard on the way home and it did not leak. Mechanically everything is excellent. Did an HPI check and came back fine. There is some wear on the driver's seat and the car has an immobiliser. Body panels all line up and the car is in genuinely good condition. Spare wheel and kit is present and the highlights pop up as they should. Engine bay very clean :).

I paid £900 for it.

My crap photos of it after the drive home. The drive home was easily the most fun I have ever had as a driver!

In before the gay comments!! :p
Thanks to all those who have helped me in the thread I made yesterday, and thanks to those from the recent RR meet who took me for passenger rides :D.

Nicely done :)

The bonnet shut line is fine, those headlamp covers never quite line up perfectly. Gently bend them up to fit properly if they're recessed. So many people lean on them when working under the bonnet

Looks good especially for the cash!

If the mx5 is anything like the mk2 mr2 those headlight covers are a right bugger to line up properly again once you've had them off to do something to the light assembly, should be simple enough to sort if you're even bothered.

Nah, the headlight covers are very simple to do - once the bonnet's up you can pull them into place. It look me 30 seconds to do on mine last week :)

Looks like a good buy - I'm glad the few passenger rides at the RR day managed to convince you to buy one!

Nice buy. There is something very enjoyable about older cars . I think part of it is realising just how little money it costs to get such a big grin.

Lovely! These really are bangertastic, I picked one up not long ago for penuts too and really like it.

I plan to spray the wingmirrors and mudflaps myself to smarten them up.
There is a scrape on the wheel arch on the passenger side but all this is just body imperfections.
The only downside to the day is I got done by a gatso speed camera on the way to view the MX5 :( Mt own fault!

I haven't got that much FSH considering the age but it did have a cambelt done 20000 miles ago, with a recent service including brake pads. I have no proof of this other than looking and there is no history prior to 2009.
I may change the aux belts as they are a bit squeaky at times.
The last MOT had no advisories and an MOT failure from a previous year had an issue with the headlights so it looks like one has been replaced or at least removed and refitted, which could explain any panel gap issues.

The insurance on an Eunos is coming in more expensive than an MX5, but it was so clean underneath that I truely believe this car has plenty of years left in it :).

Westy: Yeah it was your green one that I went in :p. I thought yours was in lovely nick.

The car has a cat. It was first registered 1st Jan 1992. The V5 says that the car is an MX5 rather than an Eunos.
The previous MOT emissions certificates say that the car is tested as a non-cat car, but I have no idea what date the regs came into force in 1992 for cats.

Does anybody know if I can remove the cat and still be OK for MOTs?

they changed the rules about cats july just gone
if the car came out the factory with a cat fitted it has to be on at the mot, even if the car passes with it removed.
