Hi I've just purchased a Samsung Evo 250 GB SSD card for my PC, I'm unsure on how to fit it though? It's not as big as the HDD obviously so will I need to buy something so it fits in the slot and what cables do I need to connect? I'm not great when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Thanks.

Some newer cases have 2 sets of holes in the drive mounts which allow use of SSD and smaller drives, alternatively these can mounted pretty much anywhere.

Cables wise you need the sata data lead and Power.

What case do you have? Most cases will have bays which have smaller fixtures for SSDs.

An alternative would be to use/buy a SDD adapter which will fit a 3.5" bay. Failing that, Velcro or double sided sticky tape works a treat. You will not damage them, both of mine are held in place like so :D

You want a 2.5 to 3.5 inch caddy and you connect the SATA and power cables to it. Usually black and they can only go in one way round.

Or do what i've done, i've ran out of 2.5 adapters, so i've led mine under the HDD caddy in my case, no moving parts inside so they can't get damaged.

Looking at the drive bays (pic below) they have a slot to take the different size drives:

The drive will not come with any leads, the motherboard manufacturer tends to supply 2-4 leads. If you don't have any then you will need to purchase one - this will plug into the spare SATA port on the motherboard you won't miss them ;) as the other drive(s) including optical would be plugged in.

Cheers mate, glad it fits.

Once I've got it all up and running how would I move windows on to there? I'm thinking of moving my games on to there as well to make them faster.

In my old case I slung my SSD on the 'floor' of the case. Didn't have a dedicated slot. It's only when I got my Corsair case I fit it into the SSD bay.

Anywhere you want.

here's where one of mine lives

screwed to an unused top fan grill

Cable ties.

If you want to be a bit more "proffesional", adapter rails for 3.5" bays are fairly cheap.

Alternatively, you could pay £5+ for an SSD tray.
