Bought the wrong tyre size, can I use them?

Safety would be my main concern with looks being way way down the list.

depending on tyre width there could be zero difference between 40-45 profile

I only say that because I can't see any real safety concerns for the difference he's making.

How does the gearbox get the power to the road? through the wheels/tyres... hence different wheel sizes = different speeds.
