Bought wrong CPU like a dumb a$$

Hi again and happy new year! :D

I was just wondering if anyone knows if overclockers is open today or tomorrow?

Im still waiting for an RMA code or a reply,i guess that they must have been closed over the holidays or something.(in hindsight i should have just waited before i rushed this order and messed it up,lesson learned lol)

Ok i just phoned up and they said i have to wait for the RMA code lol.

You should have received one by now so drop them a reminder in the Customer Service section of the forum.

The CS section will probably be looked at by someone higher up the managerial chain.

Right, they sent me an RMA code a couple of days ago and i sent it off with £200 insurance just incase.Result!

What i wonder now is will they email me to let me know when they have refunded it? I've only ever had stuff replaced by overclockers but never refunded so i dont really know how it works.Does anyone know a rough timeframe for these things?

I really wish id bothered checking the components i ordered first instead of worrying if i would receive them for xmas, then i wouldn't be in this mess and enjoying my i5 already, but you live and learn lol.

Don't be too hard on yourself fella. It's a mistake we see quite often when people spec what they intend to buy, luckily for them we can correct it before they buy. Your not the first to make the mistake. To be fair the title of "total noob-idiot-scatterbrained-moron" is reserved for people who buy a CPU which doesn't fit the socket type of the mobo ;)

once ordered a am2 cpu for socket 939! know how it feels...

lol, that reminds me,back in the 90's i had a friend with a pentium 166mhz MMX and we both went to a store so he could get a new CPU as an upgrade.
I didnt have much knowledge at the time about PC's even though id built one somehow at 15 years of age from some parts i got at a store(i fried the first motherboard by plugging in the PSU power cables the wrong way round back when they could plug in any old way lol,i think you had make sure the black cables were in the middle of the power socket?)

So anyways,i didnt know much back then so i didnt question him when he bought an AMD CPU as an upgrade .....We got back to his house and he plugged it in and it fried the motherboard because when we put his old CPU back in the PC it wouldnt turn on anymore lmfao.

Thats when i learned that an AMD CPU wont work in an intel motherboard lmfao, good times!:D

lol,i just read up on those old CPU's to see what went wrong back then cause im bored and it seems you could install an AMD CPU into an intel board back then.

I think the problem was the AMD was a socket 7 and had an extra pin on it so i dont even know how the hell he fitted it into his socket 5 board(maybe it was the other way around,it was over 10 years ago lol) but it resulted in disasterous consequences for his motherboard because it never worked ever again and he had to get a new pc lol

Time for plants vs zombies ,i'll leave this thread alone now the party is over and my i5 has been returned, thanks OCUK!:D

If it was pentium 1, a 486 or 386, it would as all the CPU's were pin compatible, an AMD or Intel or SGS Thompson (cyrix).

The socket split came after socket 7 which was compatible with all x86 processors from all mauufacturers.

Yeah i realised that after i posted i read about it online to kill boredom and to my surprise i found that it was indeed compatable.....so i dont know what the hell happend id always just assumed it was wrecked because it was an AMD in an intel board but w/e happened it wasnt good! All he had after was a black screen even with the pentium installed lol. I guess i learned something new but totaly irrelevant all these years later:D (maybe one day the worlds fate will depend on me knowing that vital peice of history but i doubt it:p)
