Just watching a program called America's Hardest Bounty Hunters on Bravo +1. But I'm still unsure as to what a Bounty Hunter actually is? They seem to be doing police duties (capturing criminals) but aren't part of the Police

And then they get a certain amount of money for each "fugitive" Caught. Apparently according to the narrator, they are VERY rich men.

Hoping someone can shed some light?

Bail jumpers and and the like have rewards put on them, bounty hunters are licensed persons who track down these people and collect the bail money or reward.

Dog the bounty hunter - excellent show :D
I always thought these people acted outside of the law, but they dont (to an extent).

Bounty Hunter :D

I thought it was more of:

Someone is arrested.

They want bail so take a bail bond out against something valueable.

They do a runner.

The bail bondsman then hirers a BH for a set % of the total value of the bail in order to bring him in.

*goes off to read wiki to see if im right*
