Box closing down.

Economies of scale. It happens in all industries and is very difficult to combat and the future will be monopolised in the end. All these legacy companies that have a "shop" front are all on borrowed time.

You see it in the trucking industry big time. Massive companies with thousands of trucks. They can undercut all the smaller companies because 1 transport manager can look after 100 drivers whereas a smaller company have to pay the same manager to look after 30. Same with Trucks. You put an order in for 100 brand new trucks you are going to get them a lot cheaper than someone buying 10.

They end up getting these smaller companies for a pittance and swallow up all their contracts.
Economies of scale plus suppliers thinking the world sized company is too big to fail so bending over backwards for them?

With the rainforest and their jungle, I suspected that the cost of their great CS has been that any cost RMA, and general returns has been mostly been passed on to the supplier. Whereas the smaller players actually have spend resources sorting that out.

Wow I am shocked to read this thread, cant believed box.co.uk went bust. I bought 1 item from box.co.uk on ebay few years ago.

I didnt know box.co.uk, chillblast, horizon, GEO and CCL are owned by Tactus Group. Interesting!

AMD and Nvidia both now lost 1 top partner, no next games promotion offers when you buy graphics cards from box.co.uk.

Personally I don't find Amazon cheap, they've gone down hill recently and their customer service was once great now it's just difficult to deal with.

I only order something from Amazon if I'm desperate for it and miss order cut offs elsewhere

I certainly don't and won't use Amazon for any thing expensive like computer parts,

It's a shame as I've bought from them over the years...

That being said, they underwent two pretty significant (and arguably ghastly) brand refreshes in a couple of years which would suggest they were struggling!

I think Tactus only bought Box fairly recently too (past few years).

Balls. Just returned a broken 990 1tb ssd for rma to them. Guess that's never getting replaced then. :(

Ps. I love ocuk and the free forum but sometimes ocuk prices aren't the best and I shop elsewhere. Please forgive me ocuk!

Christ, forgot they had even existed.

Best days for buying physical media, lost count the amount of dvd/blurays I purchased from them.

As for Box, website is still live and can make purchases, but looking at reviews no one’s getting there items, why the heck don’t they shutdown the website!

They were always the best bet for getting your pre-ordered games a few days early. Though I do remember them sending me GTA:IV on the PS3 with a ripped box art

Another forgotten and missed oldie has to be Lik-Sang. Until Sony sued them out of existence. I thought I was the coolest kid in school with my imported white PSP then I also had the Dualshock 3 for the PS3 before it was released here. Good times.

First time I'm hearing of this, not seen this retailer mentioned on here ever before.

They literally just relaunched their site with new branding, why did they do that in so much debt?

Not really sure of the connection here - this is because of a recent lawsuit by new owners over them allegedly misrepresenting details before a takeover. Not sure what debt they have nor whether that would have a big impact on their ability to either rebrand or change a website.

Probably something to do with the competitor rules ;)

They're about 10 mins drive from me, interestingly I had a call from a recruiter about 6 months ago about a position with them (or rather their parent group) to work on the backend of their new site. Was quite a tempting offer, but seems I dodged a bullet by deciding to decline!
