Boy, 11, boards plane to Italy at Manchester Airport without passport

I never left the block as I wasn't allowed to cross the road on my own.

This kid

im incredibly concerned... Imagine if he was a brainwashed jihadist 11 year old shoe bomber.

I wont be sleeping at night until all children are on leashes.

11 year olds are quite tall. This is retarded, security is so retarded.

If I went I'd no doubt end up getting a full frisking, yet this little **** gets to go to Rome for free. It's not fair!

I was staying in Hayes with my friend and his grandparents in 86. We spent time at Heathrow taking pictures and watching the planes from the Queens building I think it was. When we went for a walk around the airport we almost walked onto a plane without realising following a crowd down what we thought was a corridor.

Security at airports is supposed to be so much better today but this is what happens when people are red misted into looking for certain signs and not universally observant.

The crew on the plane must have been so sure of the security checks before the gate that they were not comprehensive on the boarding checks. Seems also to point to a domino effect of each security stage presuming the previous had done the job effectively and that added to the red mist of only checking for certain signs.

For the boy; epic! he will be his friends hero for a long while, adventure right out of boys own.

When I went to Tenerife a month a go we got checked when entering the boarding lounge, then again at the gate and then again at the plane door. Damn that kid lol...

So basically every concurrent check becomes less important?

I thought it was from Rome to here , I thought security was supposed to be tight in this country :(

Only coming in, mate made it to Spain with an out of date passport. Security only spotted it at uk border controll. And where like me well not much we can do, you were lucky.

Seems so; multiple checks have a purpose to check for things missed by previous checks. I think a red mist clouded the vigilance of the staff also with the threat of terrorism, something like "oh a boy, must be with his family".

I think it would be much easier as a child...adults are less likely to challenge you, and all you have to do is stand near a family with loads of kids and shuffle through...kids are never given their own boarding pass as parents usually keep hold of them...shove a fistful of them at an attendant who has another 200 people to get onto a plane, is she likely to count up the number of kids stood behind and adult?

I can see how easy it could have been for him, but really is due to his size and been lucky to go unnoticed, and if noticed at all assuming he was with someone else.
