Boy removed from school in transgender rights row

We've just had a letter round from the CofE school that my younger daughter attends about how they're going to be doing some "Rainbow flag" art thing in PSHE, which is all to do with LGBT stuff.

I can't believe you are letting them brainwash your child with their propaganda!

I mean....God and Jesus and all that, what a load of cobblers :D

As I understand it, the parents are Christians, the kid who was wearing the skirt was doing just that, wearing a skirt.

The parents have no problem with a girl wearing trousers I might add, it's just the boy wearing a skirt they have problems with because 'it's not what boys wear'.

Not quite, the boy was also identifying as a girl and changing his name, apparently inconsistently. So I don't think it was just about clothes.

They don't need to agree with it, or expect their kids to, but I don't see why they can't just teach their kids to live and let live. Not sure why it would bother the kids unless the parents have transferred their anxiousness about it to their kids. Not great parenting.

Also not great parenting to let your children identify as the opposite sex at such a young age. They have no idea at that age of the life defining ramifications of their "decision".

Take the kid to parts of Africa, or Asia, or the Middle East. Mind blown. Even Scotland would do it. I'll come round his house in my kilt.

Indeed.

Kilts are very comfy actually.

Just going by the radio story bud where both of the parents spoken on Radio 4 this morning. But yes, I negated to say some days the child wears skirt other trousers.

Also, kids always cross dress or wear clothes of the opposite sex whilst growing up. It's a hard thing to administer for schools I bet, if the school came out and literally said 'sorry, your child is male, they shouldn't be wearing a skirt' they'd have gotten lynched.

It means you have form for posting about this issue as nauseam.

Although perhaps you post because you are ad nauseam of it.

Because it's a discussion forum and a point of discussion that seems to be very topical at the moment, you know if you don't want to read these posts or contribute to them you can just not click the thread?

For me in the UK we have a real issue of teaching basic sex education, and to say this child was a bully because he mis-gendered another child is awful and just breeds resentment, if we take this at face value and the kid wasn't being abusive to the other child.

But before you even start any of that there needs to be an education on this, and it's a minefield of teaching this stuff.

It's interesting, when I read the bullying sentence I had the same reaction. Then I read it a bit more closely and it strikes me that the sentence actually says that the parents believe that the school policy on inclusion technically means he could be punished for bullying, not that he's been accused of it.

Just make a unisex uniform, trousers are fine for boys and girls and put a stop to all this nonsense. At such a young age I can't see how a kid can identify as the opposite sex, boys and girls aren't really that different until they hit puberty.

I can see why kids would find it confusing (adults struggle with it) but this does look like parents meddling.

Trousers are fine for boys and girls, yes. The issue with the parents is skirts for boys.

A school did that just last week and faced a backlash from the usual people....
