Boycotting PS3 Malarky

Yeah, my main gripe with the 360 is the lack of AF. I guess people who haven't been into high performance PCs will really notice - but to those of us used to having sharp textures far away as well as up close, it's an eye sore

I'm not slagging MS off for those claims because to me they are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I'm just saying that if we hold MS to their exact precise words then technically they've been untruthful, whether intentionally or not it doesn't matter

I don't care about AA personally - for me a high and unfluctuating framerate is the main thing. I can live without AA or AF. I can't live with a crap framerate because it spoils the game for me.

Can i just turn things around here a bit. Say for example Sony where form the UK, and the UK and US where the launch regions, and we where getting stiffed on the number of consoles, just like japan are. Now lets say lots of Japanese started importing our limited amount of consoles that we got from some daft French eTailer. Would you be happy?? no you wouldnt, you would be in a rage and wanting Sony to do something so that the Japanese didnt get our already scarce consoles.
What if Sony said, ok UK can have 50,000 consoles too on launch, then you found out there was a company buying thousands just to sell to germany, holland and france, you would be like, Hang on!!! that aint right. Sony stop it please sony

Exactly - that's fair in my eyes.

For every import made, someone is losing out on a purchase from Japan. Sure, not so much a problem for software purchases, but hardware purchases, it should be controlled.

Isn't it up to Sony to meet the demands of its consumers? If Sony were able to produce enough consoles to meet their demands in the first place then there would be no issue of importing or otherwise. Some countries around the world never get an official console release. The people that want a console in that country have to import because there is no other way.

TBH its not as though Sony did not know there was going to be a huge demand. They have created a shortage by mismanagement and incompitance.

I'm certain the Japanese can use Lik-sang just as freely as anyone else througout the world.

The problem is though, even if Sony could have made 2 million consoles before the 17th Nov launch, it would still suffer chronic shortages.

Sure you can say Sony should have met demands, but they have decided chronic shortages in 2 regions and a delay in 1 is better than 3 chronic shortages when all they do is get bad press about shortages lol

The shortages of the 360 last year at release didnt harm sales, if anything maybe it drove demand further.

I think the shortages are actually planned. If you make millions and get loads returned faulty then you have lost a poop load more cash than if the first phase of consoles is in shorter supply.. that way when they come back ya aint lost so much

well thats my uneducated idea hehe

Other than that, a serious question, why is it so hard to mass produce consoles?

Sony were taking about some crazy numbers of consoles being made per week. The shortage would be minimal. Obvioulsy I do not think (and never did) that sony are capable of the numbers they were talking about.

Sony obviously see the importers as a thorn in their side, but at the end of the day, a sold console is a sold console. Why do they care that the sold console left the country? Because it is less revenue from the Cash Cow called Europe.

They are not protecting their consumers.

But the thing is we are not seeing it from the Japanese side. Maybe Sony are taking an awfull lot of flak from Japan about this being able to happen, knowing they will end up on ebay, much like it it was reversed we would be moaning at them too.
They are in essence protecting their homebase customers. Getting their installed base in Japan sorted, for sales of Blu-Ray, launching of services etc over there.
Annoying Japanese and US customers with Europeans playing in there games causing a lot of lag will do nothing for the advertising of the online service they have too.
Also the ratings for games etc are totally different, Sony could find themselves in hot bother with it. And as said before if you buy an import you are lucky to have any warranty. Some folk know the risks, some folk dont, so you get the cry babies on with 'i paid $600 for a PS3 and it wont work so i phoned Sony UK and they said, tough, so lets boycott them for bad customer service'
I am not justifying the delay of the EU launch by any means, but i can see why they dont want their product to be sold for export. I may be wrong, but didn't Sony respectfully request Lik-Sang not to sell to EU customers and they said 'sod off, what you gonna do about it'?
