Braces

Hmm when I read about it and people saying about treatments, was my system done differently to others? Because I see people say stuff like "The only part that hurts is.." (not just these forums others too) but mine really was quick and painless.

They just stuck all the braces on separately with some glue and put a wire through them, and to tighten them every 6 weeks they replace a wire that goes through them.

Braces are a con! I had them, sure my teeth were perfect for a while! Wisdom teeth come along and oh look my mouth is crowded once again :o

I cannot believe that your orthodentist did not get you to have your wisdom teeth removed. They nearly always remove the wisdom teeth for that very reason.

i think it depends if you get teeth removed or not.

me and my brother both got braces, both done by the same orthodontist, he had 4 teeth removed, i didn't. he was in so much pain when her first got them, i wasn't too bad, bit sensitive but that's it....it's cause they have to the tighten them more to fill the gap or maybe it's cause the gum is sensitive as teeth were removed? no idea tbh but that's was i assumed

I had braces when I was 13yrs old, had 4 teeth removed due to overcrowding. I first had the retainer bace (removable one) for my upper jaw then I had 'traintracks'. I wore them for 2yrs and then had them removed. I had absolutely wonderful teeth, but then as I got older my wisdom teeth came through and totally screwed them up again. Not to mention the grinding I did in my sleep on the left side of my jaw.

So now, looks like I need some treatment again. But the cost... well that's going to be the deciding factor.

May aswell make this a little progress thread incase anyone finds themselves in a similar position to me. Here's the before pictures which show the extent of the crowding... those of a nervous disposition look away now - my teeth are pretty damn hideous. :D

Passed the point of no return today and had an upper first premolar and a lower second premolar removed on one side. I'm back next week to have the same performed on the other side.

That's all for now. :)

i have braces, they stop me biting my nails :) though it is really fustrating as they break every month and my mouth hurts for 2 days after i get them fixed, the orthodontist waiting room is my second home practically lol.

i LOVE it when people compliment my teeth
i had fixed braces for almost 5 years - and it made it all worth it the first time someone commented on how good they looked :D
i love them - now i'd just like to get them whitened

persevere! i promise it'll be worth doing!

sorry for old thread, but i have my braces off a week ago, and today ive been given 2 retainers (one for the top, and one for the bottom) that i have to wear for 12-14 hours a day (basicly evenings and nights), but whislt the top one if fine, the bottom one is hurting like a ****, is this normal? I seriously think theres something wrong with it.

I had braces when I was 14-15. Sorted my top row out but ended it early as I hated it. Now, at 24, i'm considering having the bottom row braced again and it's gonna cost a fair wack, regret having them removed when I was young and stupid:(

Get them while they're free!!!!

I had braces for two years. Slightly annoying, granted, but was definitely worth it. My teeth are much, much better now :)

I got a brace fitted to my top teeth when I was 14, was only on for 18 months and my teeth were left perfect. My wisdom teeth are coming in now and things are starting to get a bit tight again.
