Hey it just goes to show that even if you don't get the results you can still persevere. this should be a message to all students must have taken hard work to become a prof after this but he managed it.

This made me think of:

that is all.

Well, celebrities are not famous for their academic results are they?

His work is mostly on communicating science to the public. Highly commendable but it's not the same as coming up with a new theory or a theory of everything is it?

As for the correlation between academic/intelligence prowess and getting to become a professor, let's just say it's tenuous.

I got DDEd at A level (I think!). I'm now at law school. Messing up exams when eighteen doesn't have to hamstring you for life.

Until you apply for a job that requires a certain number of UCAS points or certain A level grades :p

Eh? it's only recently that he's become a "celebrity", apart from D:Ream. He's gone through the ranks of Academia at UoM and is a renowned Physicist.

You dislike a man but like a thread dedicated to the man doing well?

I have respect that he has done well for himself and it goes to show that qualifications are not the be all and end all.

But I still dislike him as a presenter. His presenting skills are all about cheesy grins and more cheesy grins. :p
