Brake calliper spring?

My brakes have been squealing a lot recently after being replaced (discs and pads all round) and recently also noticed a bad vibration through steering wheel when braking from speed on the motorway (still legal speed limit!)

Left the car back in to be checked & I've been told it's missing a locating spring from one of the brake callipers..... How likely is this to have fallen off & would this likely cause the issues described above?

Just wondering if I'm likely to be charged for this!

You sure they said spring?

Can only think its either the dust boot from a slider or (more likely) the pad retainer/locator - neither of which are expensive

What car?

Why would the garage work on it for free? Did the same garage replace the discs and pads?

Vauxhall Astra 3DR 2007. Took car back to same place that replaced the discs and pads. They haven't mentioned any cost yet but from what I've heard the brake locator (heard it was spring but may be screw?) is missing & that's why the brakes were vibrating and squealing.

The part I think you are on about goes in the caliper behind the pads, normally comes with pads or costs about 1.50 off eBay?

Believe it's quite common for cars with sliding type calipers to have a spring as part of the assembly, either to help retain the pads/stop the pads rattling or possibly keep the caliper aligned to the disc.

Lots of photos if you google it.
