Okay so my car wont start its parked outside my house it could be the starter motor thats gone, its midnight and i need my car working by the morning what options do i have? If i was to become a member of rac or aa now would i be able to claim straight away?

Not without further charges, you would have to wait 24 hours from when you sign up to be able to use the breakdown cover at home.

Although you can pay for a call out without membership although I have no idea how much it will cost. Found this on RAC, could give them a call and see what they say about price.

If your vehicle has already broken down, you cannot buy your RAC membership online. However, we can still help - call us for immediate cover on 0800 828282 or 0333 2000999.

No as stated above the benifit you need which is home start only kicks in 24 hours after you take out membership. Bump starting it may be your best bet.

AA equivalent for immediate help:

If your vehicle has already broken down and you're not currently an AA Member, please call us on 0800 500 222 to discuss your options. Membership entitlements do not cover pre-existing incidents or breakdowns that occurred prior to the Member joining the AA. Please note that service cannot be provided if the Member joined the AA within the last 24 hours.

Cheers everyone, just rung RAC is £99 for them to come out and look at it and thats not a gaurantee there fix it, And i think its the starter motor gone, ealier i got leads and jump started it and drove the full day but then few hours down the line it went again :/

Even if you wait 24 hours, it cannot be a pre-existing breakdown.

You weren't on cover when it broke down.

If you managed to jump start it then it doesn't sound like a starter motor issue, unless you've tried jump starting again and it wouldn't turn over. More likely a battery issue, or possibly an alternator issue I would have thought.

Sounds like your battery is goosed to me, and or possibly a faulty alternator.

Does the starter motor go click when you turn the key?
