I ordered a new set of Ferrodo DS2500 pads ready for Combe this coming saturday, however due to a delay I won't be getting them before today or tomorrow.

Obviously that doesn't leave much time for bedding them in.

Has anyone ever been on track with brand-new pads?

Yes, I went to Donnington with new pads all round that were two days old.

First lap - bedded in. :D

Nothing to worry about. Just get them on, stamp on them a few times & give them some hot and cold cycles.

New pads isnt too much of any issue.

New disks need a lot 'better' bedding in.

A few gentlre stops from 70-20 gradually increasing effort should do it. Main aim is to get any gases out of the pad and also ensure it flattens off allowing full contact with the disk.

Would be worth bleeding the brakes before and after the track too :)

I'm getting a bit worried as I have a cracked screen. I had managed to sort a brand new one free through work however it might not be with me till next week.

I've emailed combe to see what they say about cracked screens (its quite obvious) and marshalls may kick up a fuss. If not its gonna have to be me paying for one and hoping they can do tomoz :(

How much is the windscreen excess for your policy? If it's only £50 or so I'd definitely go ahead with it, rather than risk combe.

They might say it's ok in e-mail, but could very easily change their mind when they see it (it's cracked right across isn't it?)

Did you manage to source any A-pillar covers?

DS2500s have a little form in the box telling you how to bed them in usually. One of the methods is to thrash it down the straights and stand on the brakes hard before the corners for a few laps, so drive it as normal. :)

Rally cars used to have pre-bedded in pads but my dad advises me that when that wasnt available, drive and 30. Accel to 60 and break slowly back to 30. Rinse and repeat about 5 or 6 times and they should be ok. Well they were ok rally cars :D

Wow, why didn't I think of that :p

I don't have FC cover and so a screen is about £110 fitted. Was hoping to get the free one today.

I have an email back saying it shouldn't be a problem, but as you say they might not like it on the day. I feel safe going out with it like it is though

Wouldn't stomping on them make them disform?

Try going like 70 and riding the brakes gently till you stop, then do it again but brake harder, then again and then just do a few gentle laps or something.

Edited to make sense.

They just arrived, and yep they had a box saying just that.

The instuctions say 25-30 times at 50%, then they are basically ready to go.

Sorted

Pity I have to go to work in a bit, I won'thave time to fit them today :(

Bedding In

This is an awesome guide.

My last set of pads had a 100 mile jaunt down the motorway to bed in before I spanked em round the track.

The drive to Combe should be more than enough.
I could probably leave my drive and get to combe without even using my brakes. Distance covered is useless for measuring how bedded in brakes are

Combe is about 10 minutes down the road from my house........

How worn are the disks? If there are significant ridges then the initial braking needs to be relatively gentle to wear the pads to the shape of the disks without creating hot spots on the pads. Once the pads and disks are fully conforming then you can start putting the heat cycles through the system to bed everything in properly.
