Brand new fried graphics card, help!

I have turned on my PC before without the power connected to the card and like others a constant beep with no post.
Maybe I was lucky it didn't fry anything but sounds to me like a bad case of luck. I am sure RMA will sort it out.

My 8800 Ultra used to have a small speaker on it.. The racket it made if you forgot to put the power in :D
 
Yeah as stated here I doubt it's caused by not having power connector's in, plenty of protection circuits built in tbh. Some graphics cards even have lights (as well as speakers as mentioned) to indicate whether the power connector's are connected properly (I think the Asus ones have this). The worst it will do is not post
 
I've had ati cards display "please connect the additional power connector" or words to that effect in a bold/red text font before - and refuse to do anything bar switch the PC off.

did you fully seat the card - I suspect you didnt and you got a short/arc between the high power pci-e connector at whichever end wasnt in and the card - it might just need the card connector gold pins cleaning and it might work - but it might not.
