Brand new iPad 2 sound not working. Am I being thick?

So, fresh out of the ever-so-white box and all set up properly and played with a bit, but then I noticed a lack of any kinds of sounds at all.

I've checked the volume buttons and Settings>General>Sounds. I've also turned it off and on again. I'm new to Apple and iPads, so am I missing something obvious?

I received an iPhone which didn't make a sound at all. Took it to Apple store and they replaced with a new one within 10-15 minutes.

I'm clueless then! I would probably just try a restore from iTunes for the hell of it.. Then be going to Apple.

I had this issue for a while, after I swapped the mute switch to control orientation. The iPad was still in mute but no changing the volume etc. seemed to bring it out. Fixed it by double tapping and swiping right to the music controls. The mute icon there was on, turned it off and everything was hunky dory.

Hook it up to iTunes and do a restore on it as well, worth a try.

Just tried your suggestion, Ekim, but no joy. I've hooked it up to iTunes to check it is the latest and it is. Guess I'll try a restore tomorrow. Does restoring remove all my bookmarks, et cetera.?

Make sure you havent set the side switch to mute rather than rotation lock. I did it and it drove me daft!
