brand new, second pc, lagging

Well it's been a few days with the NIC and no lag spikes so must be a crappy motherboard ethernet port which surprises me.
Thanks for all your advice everyone.
 
Just checked the spec on the board, it uses a Realtek® RTL8111H-CG, Realtek have an unfortunate history in terms of networking, they are very much the ‘win modem’ of the NIC world. Intel haven’t exactly had it great recently with drivers or the i225 fiasco, but that’s off the back of decades of decent stability/support.
