Branded v Supermarket fuel

Toyota are using as light as 0W-16 in some of their engines, which is odd because Lotus are using as heavy as 5W-40 for the same engines!

It does seem to be exhaust emissions at the cost of the engine.

That's nuts. Even a can of 0W-20 sounds like paraffin when shaken!

As an aside, How would a Motor oil that is thinner than "0" be described?? (Eg "X"W-10 or SAE"X" ?)

GPF is under the car rather than in the engine bay

Iirc the introduction of GPF was 1st Sept 2018.

Non-GPF engine codes were DLBA for 245ps models and DLBB for 227PS models. They changed to DKTA for 245ps models and DKTB for 227ps models once a GPF was fitted
Mine is a DLBA (one of the very first 245 deliveries) and as far as I was concerned NON-GPF but there are a few (very confident) people in the community who claim all 245 engines are GPF fitted, having taken 2017 cars for exhaust and engine modifications.

Taking the engine cover off was more about seeing if it has MPI, assuming no MPI = GPF, MPI = no GPF.

Having a look to see if MPI is present should be an easy indicator. If you've got VCDS, you can grab the ECU ID (VAG Number) and I can confirm what is and isn't enabled in that particular calibration.

Golf GTi, Octavia VRS and some others all share the same calibration.

@Kenai spoke to my colleague today for some clarification.

Your VRS will fall under the mid cycle refresh for MQB.

This means no GPF, no MPI and the 7 Speed DQ381 Transmission.

And ultimately the same control system as the GPF equipped cars which were introduced for MY19

Interesting and goes towards confirming what I thought originally - that the car has no GPF. Thanks for the taking the time to ask / post.
