There's a huge difference between doing it mid season when anything can still happen and with only 2 races left when you know letting a particular driver win will likely cost you the title.

Unfortunately a lack of punishment to Alonso in Germany has given the green light to team orders, I don't like them but it shouldn't be exclusive to Ferrari either.
