Ok, I am trying to increase the SEO of a website, currently around 125 pages but growing slowly each month. At the moment I don't have breadcrumb navigation set up on the pages but I think it might be quite a good idea. There is also now a specific microformat for breadcrumb navigation and I was wondering if anyone has implemented this on a site in the last 6 months or so and what effect this had on the website and any improvement it had in SEO terms.

Ultimately the question is: is it worth implementing?

For UI purposes, yes. For SEO, no, it won't make a difference.

SEO rankings are based on site content and link juice built up from external links to your site from other high ranking sites. Internal links do next to nothing.

Focus on the wording of the content, it has to seem relevant to the search terms someone will use on Google.

If you think breadcrumbs are useful for usability, then sure.

Will they boost your search ranking, probably not.
