Breadmakers

there's nothing better than waking up in the morning to the smell of a freshly baked loaf :)
Oh yes. There's a bakery warehouse thing down the road and on some windy mornings the smell wafts up over to our road - it's simply godly.

I'm hungry :( Need bread :(

My dad bought one of these years ago, used it for months. The bread it made was gorgeous, unfortunatley it broke, but he bought a new one a couple of weeks back

It's so good to have fresh bread again. The smell is just awesome

I have the Panasonic as well and it's easily the best judging by comments of friends with other makes. I also use fast bake and the following recipe for my white:

1 teaspoon easy fast acting yeast (not heaped, I use those sachets of yeast and it's about half of one of those).
500g Strong White Breadmaker flour
1.5 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
25g butter
320ml water

My ex-girlfriends mum used to make the stuff all the time and there's nothing better than fresh/warm bread and butter in the morning!

I also use mine to make nan bread using the recipe book supplied with it. The nan bread is nicer than most indians, now if only i had a tandori oven to cook it in instead of a grill.

Btw all, where on earth do I get the ingredients from? I only shop in Iceland as I hate the big stores, so I've never visited them.

Most shops sell the ingredients, even my local Budgens and Co-op which are not big stores.

Damn you all! Hand hovering over order button for one of these, I must go through 3 loaves a week, sandwiches for work, toast for breakfast etc. I spend a lot on bread and I don't find the generic Warburtons, Hovis etc. all that appealing compared to fresh baked loaves.

The panny 254 looks like a decent one :)

Holy Thread Rivaval batman

Contrary to my post just above, I still haven't bought one! This antique thread being bumped up doesn't help!

The Panasonic one is the only one worth considering, we had some cheaper one before and it was junk, the Panasonic does not use milk power so it tastes like bread and not sweet like some other makes.

Perfect loaves every time and it adjusts itself depending on the temperature of the environment that day

Damn I was hoping for some extended use reviews :) I tend to use the search function loads, so invariably I resurrect threads, but to be fair, my post wasn't deserving of a new thread.

Edit - Nice one POB, might pop to town to pick one up, £10 more expensive than online but today's my only day off

DO NOT BUY the Antony Worral Thompson one from Breville. It's an absolute POS! We were given one by my old work as an engagement present and I've only used it 3 times. It's gone back in the loft now after my mother gave it back, she only used it once. Now I'm looking for someone else to pass it off to.

Bread does not and should not contain butter or milk powder! Flour, water, yeast, salt. that's all you need.

I make bread by hand about once a week but that's nowhere near enough to cover our bread needs. The problem with doing it by hand it the time it takes, not really the mixing and kneading but the resting and proving. I fell asleep on the sofa last week when I had a loaf resting and left it for 2 hours! The thing was massive when I eventually stuck it in the oven.

Ive got the old panasonic and its ace, you'll be fine. Should make your own nan bread with it as well as its much better than the stuff from supermarkets. Make sure you use proper bread flour.

Got the same a few months a go to replace the old crappy one (see post #73) & we had at least a loaf every 2 days from it since. Takes about 2 mins to load it up & 4 hours later, perfect bread.

Enjoy!

I've moved on to hand making bread nowadays. We still have a bread machine somewhere.

IMO the jump from machine to hand made is as good (if not better) than the jump from shop bought to machine.

Either way, anything tastes better than the lifeless, limp pap you get from supermarkets.
