My breakdown cover renewal has just come up so I've had a look at a comparison website and get similar cover from a variety of places for a quarter of the price. I haven't heard of many of these suppliers though and am wary of going with a complete unknown (to me).

Anyone have any experience with using a less well known name?

We get ours through the civil service with Britannia Rescue and it's up for renewal this month. It costs £85 for a year fully comp but this includes their magazine and I think we get Personal Accident Cover as well. I was also having a look at others and, like you, I have never heard of some of these companies. We've been with Britannia for years and think we've only used them once when the battery died and they brought my wife home from work.

Look at the cashback deals available via TopCashBack etc as well

I'm with Nationwide and just been looking at their packaged account. It's gone up to £13 per month but the breakdown and travel insurance looks the same as what I currently have but it will save me about £100. I'll read more about it but it looks like I could be upgrading to FlexPlus to get the benefits. However, it all depends on what restrictions they impose on all my ailments :)
