That time of year when my breakdown cover is up for renewal.

I have always previously been AA or RAC, but have just done a check on confused.com and it gives some other companies that seem to be much better value, but are they too good to be true.

Theres the more obvious Green Flag, but also companies like rescuemycar.com, covermybreakdown.co.uk and startrescue.co.uk to name a few.

rescumycar do a national recovery with home start for £43.90 and there's 20% off through Quidco bringing it down to £35.1, so not much more than standard Local cover from the AA.

Anyone ever used any of the other companies, as that seems to be a great deal?

Used startrescue.co.uk for 2 years for the wife. cost under £40 a year.

3 call outs -

1. one windscreen wiper failure, motor turning, arm not moving - local garage turned up and fixed within 20 mins of call out.
2. locked keys in car - local garage turned up within 30 minutes, couldn't break in, i turned up, used their tools and got in.
3. Fuel pump issue- towed us to nearest garage which was about 35 miles along the M5, hung around until garage agreed it would be sorted. again a local repair garage person who turned up with 30 mins.

basically you don't get a recognised national repair truck turning up, just a some local person to where you have broken down.

I no longer use them though as we have breakdown cover provided through my bank.

I use First Call. £32 a year for basic roadside - I've used them twice and each time they got to me within 30mins so no complaints here.

Cheers went with these. Got Breakdown with National Rescue and Home start for £35.45 (with 15% Quidco as well). Happy with that.
