Breakdown cover

I used a comparison site for breakdown cover, iirc it might have been comparethemarket or something similar. Ended up going with RAC Essentials but there was loads to choose from.

£13/m

Green flag full cover.

With nationwide account. Cover includes mobile phone and holiday insurance. Joint accounts covers us both too! Bargain.

I'm using RAC 'essentials' I think it's called. Covers me as a driver in any age car, and includes getting me/the car home on a lorry if it dies & is un fixable which was the only service I really wanted. Think it was £60/year or so.

As already said, check your bank account for cover as above as that's normally cheapest - another option is extending the included cover that came with the car if it's relatively new, e.g. I pay £8.30 per month equivalent through Citroen Assistance (£199 for two years) which is RAC fortunately, but never had an issue thankfully. They were also okay when called out under the Mercedes assistance with my old car.

Just wondered who you use for cover?
Been with Green Flag for a few years but fed up of their renewal shenanigans of trying to charge more than new customers.
Found one called Start Rescue which seemed competitive and apparently is Which Recommended - if that actually has relevance.

any thoughts or feedback on that, or even just go for AA/RAC ?
Mainly for peace of mind and I usually have nationwide recovery and at home service.
Think I’ve called recovery once in 20 years though for two punctures.

I think there's been threads asking this recently? I used a price comparison site for breakdown cover. Think it cost about £40 for the year for RAC. Can't comment on the service as i haven't needed them.

I swap between AA and RAC year by year, normally taking close to a top package and getting circa £160 back per year via TCB off a £250 coverage so ends up around £90/year and covers most eventualities.

I've had to use both and not a lot between them, RAC did get to me quicker when I used them but we're talking a 20 minute difference against AA.

I get it through my bank, 20 quid a year and have travel, breakdown and boiler covered.
Recently needed the boiler side of it (pump failed).
I'm doubled up on breakdown as van has it via manufacturer warranty.

Sorry, missed the original thread When posting, but some helpful advice here as well.
Some interesting feedback and observations too! Was Rilot the member who had big issues with electricals after a car was recovered?
I’ll do some price comparison and look around for offers first as suggested, but seems might as well go, with the cheapest, whoever that is.
wonder if my bank has any offers. Not something I had thought of either.

Looking for new breakdown cover, my aa cover is coming to an end, just wondered what some of you guys were using and the level of service you received if you’ve had to call them out.

Cheers
I get RAC cover with my bank.(Barclays but other do similar) iirc it's £15 a month and we get full RAC cover for mine and my wife's car, as well as travel insurance for my wife and I Inc "activities" such as scuba and I think skiing (I don't ski so didn't look for that).

as for RAC. we used them once. service was fine but callout was sloooow but I think that is par for the course.

only fast call out I ever had was with green flag (they get to you with in an HR or pay you £10 (or they used to)

if I was paying a year's sub just for breakdown I would choose green flag so long as they still have the 1 HR promise.

Rilot is the one where they lost his car for a couple of weeks and he eventually got it back with a new rear windscreen with no explanation.
