US: Breaking Bad Season 5 Part II - The finale.

It was...

Breaking Bad basically doesn't go anywhere because it's all for nothing. Jesse wasn't even needed as a character as he didn't grow in any way. Started as a druggie with nobody and ended as such.

So unless everyone rides off into the sunset having not accomplished their goals it makes a disappointing show? Surely this would make all films and tv very predictable....

Saying it goes nowhere is just plain stupid. Did Walt not change or go anywhere either?

It was my conclusion, Jesse will not be cooking meth after that. He may not even smoke it, thats a big step for an addict. Seems like quite a journey to me.
Jesse was supposed to be killed off I think it was written in but they changed it for good reason

Producer Vince Gilligan originally planned to kill off Jesse in this first season, before consulting his writers. Gilligan now refers to this unused idea as the "bad pitch",

it was based on drugs. anything based on drugs serves the golden rule that it's all for nothing. bar the quick fun time splashing the cash.

What I liked about BB, was that it wasn't always a happy ending. No fluffy heroes or coolio's to satisfy the audience... It kept things harsh and real... Well ok, of course it glamorised a few things, like the M60. But at the end of the day the cancer, the divorce, the gloom.. It all made for the best show ever created !

It does go nowhere, he just screws everybody and everything up and in the last few episodes, he's so unfathomably evil that any sympathy for him is lost.

By the last episode, Walt's been so nasty to his family / friends that his final acts of redemption of disclosing Hank's grave and saving Jesse don't mean anything. Am I supposed to care that at this point that Walt is realising how he was lost for a long time to Heisenberg?

Jesse's story arc is essentially: Small time druggie, beaten up, druggie, beaten up, rehab, imprisoned, let go with no money and literally everyone he cared about dead.

It's just TOO negative and depressing to be at all satisfying. Ending up being some sort of don't do drugs m'kay advert!

Jesse's journey through the series ends up being redemptive, but it's left up to the viewer to come to that conclusion to a certain degree - i.e it isn't force fed to you.

Just finished watching the finale last night and I have to say it's been the most gripping TV series that I've seen in a long time!

I've only read the last couple of pages but to even put Lost in the same sentence is ridiculous in my opinion!

Lost was an interesting premise that was a victim of it's own success, so they dragged it out over far too many seasons that the story arc simply couldn't sustain!

For me Breaking Bad was interesting from the start, seeing the characters rise and fall, then ending with the majority of plot lines nicely explained!

My favourite was season 5, episode 14 "Ozymandias" - I felt drained after the first 15-20 minutes! (R.I.P ASAC Schrader :()

What to watch now...........

+1

Try Justified.

As per my post above I can't complain about anything in the series.....except.....

Surely Walt shouldn't have told Lydia that she'd been poisoned by the Ricin - while she was infected surely it would give her the best possible chance of getting medical attention and most probably living!?!?

A simple "Goodbye" with a smile on his face would have been enough!

Anyway, that's nit-picking and I still wish I could wipe my memory and enjoy the whole series again! :D

You shouldn't worry about that really.

After being poisoned by Ricin, once you reach the stage where she was there is no turning back, regardless of medical care. That's why he told her, because he wanted her to know that she was going to die - instead of thinking she was just ill.

See here for details, Lydia was a dead woman walking..

Perhaps it wasn't the smartest thing to do, to read that at work. :p I've probably flagged as dangerous now. :p
