Breaking in a bike engine

all i can say is where we worked (cash i hand, years ago) there was a godawful Rover Kensington 100. This was the companies car for running errands/picking up parts etc - a dogsbody car.

This thing was ragged from day 1. I mean abused. In the end it was actually really nippy, pulling silly speeds in 2nd on the limiter. This isnt a comprehensive roundup, hell its n = 1, but its true.

I remember the ZX12 got big press because of a early self destructs, kwak then told all owners to run in for some daft amount like 2k miles. Used to hear you can create a 'slow' bike by not giving enough beans early on.. whether this is a old wives tale who knows with modern metals used for cylinder walls etc (something to do with glazing of cylinder walls)

Yamaha told me years back to just not hold same revs for any amount of time, go up and down the box and just get everything loosened up. If I got a new bike now I'd go out on a long ride and give it plenty of varied revs... avoiding prolonged redline use and full throttle for a couple of hundred, then I rekon it's good to go :)
