Togo football team's bus fired on

A bus carrying Togo's national football team to the Africa Cup of Nations has been hit by machine-gun fire, injuring two players, reports say.

The reported incident occurred as the bus was en route to Angola from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Africa Cup of Nations is due to start in Angola on Sunday.

Togo's first game is to be played on Monday in the oil-rich northern territory of Cabinda, where rebels have been fighting for independence.

The identities of the wounded players are not known. There are unconfirmed reports of serious injuries.

The Togolese team includes Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Not exactly what you want to see heading up to the WC (or ever really).

I wonder if they will pull out of the tournament now or even cancel the whole tournament.

They might pull out if their future safety can't be assured, you'd think from this point on they'll be surrounded be their own gunmen and bullet proof vehicles, which you do wonder why they weren't.

Thing is I know the african nations FA aren't absolutely loaded, but with a pretty large number of millionaires involved, you'd think the players themselves and their clubs would be paying for some really hefty security.

I have no problem with Ade when he's not being paid by me to do nothing, don't wish any harm to come to him and hope no one on that bus is critically injured.

News could be, if its very bad, heavily delayed as next of kin are notified before names are released, depends how tight security is around them this second and how close reporters can get.

Not a great start to say the least, when are the first games due to kick off?

Sickening and one has to think how can this happen? Surely security should have been a damn sight higher.
