Not quite. Head/motion tracking tech has been around for a lot longer than Kinect. TrackIR was a PC peripheral used in racing and flight sim games, which was around about 6-7 years before, and there's probably even earlier examples.
There's been plenty of breakthroughs in medical science in the last 20 years. Some real big ones as well. But as posters have said, these things don't just turn up. They are the result of building on previous research.
