I have an Alcosens DA-5000 which is playing up - when I blow into it, it comes up with Flo after two seconds. All the manual says is that this means I haven't blown into it properly so need to try again. But doing that doesn't work. Is the sensor knackered?

If I need a new sensor, are they easy to fit yourself? I see a new one is about £16 versus £40 for a brand new DA-5000. The website says they are easy to fit and come with fitting instructions but I can't see how you open it up. There are no screws that I can see.

Bit of a pain as I am borderline and I need to drive this morning.

i heard a lot of those breath testers are inaccurate at the best of times. if you are borderline then you probably shouldn't be driving.

AFAIK it is pretty accurate. I was over at 6am this morning and wanted to see if I still am. Based on past experience almost certainly not, but I wanted to be sure.

I wouldn't drive but if you have to suggest you have some water to drink and something to eat get it out your system quicker. Have a good day!

I guess I should have expected moralising rather than an answer my my actual questions ;)

Theres no moralising what so ever

if you had not added the bottom part of your post:

Bit of a pain as I am borderline and I need to drive this morning.

and just left the top part asking about the device, then im sure you would have got answers specific to that, but as you mentioned that you are most likely still drunk and over the limit, people will comment as they see fit, seeing as though you dont seem capable to use your own mind wisely

Still drunk, not likely, if you were still drunk and drove then your an idiot.

Have alcohol over the legal limit still in your body, potentially.

He's told you that his device is Accurate. From the sounds of it.. he's not gone some ebay cheepo bit of kit.

Stop picking at him :p

eating wont get alcohol out of your system faster, it will make the process longer!

as mentioned get some water down ya and wait a bit, if you are asking yourself if you are over the limit you probably are

its easy really
you don't drink at all if your driving
i wouldn't risk my licence to something i could by out a shop or online

i'd say i agree, especially as the cops will be out in force over the holidays :(

Is the need to drive urgent, can someone else not go ?

to be fair i have heard that the cheap breathalyzers are rubbish but that the expensive ones are reasonable. so i suppose a £40 tester is probably not too bad

Yes, it sounds like the flow sensor has died. I'm assuming it uses something like a hot wire to check whether you are actually blowing, and those are notoriously fragile.

As for opening the case, I can't help. Does it have little rubber feet to stand on? Because these are often put over screw holes.

It is working now, seems to have sorted itself. It will need to be replaced / have a new sensor soon anyway though, due to the age & amount of tests I've used it for.

No rubber feet or anything I can see like that. The battery cover slides off and there is nothing obvious inside either. I guess I'll get in touch with the shop and ask them how it's done.

If you are at a 0.08 you are still DRUNK. People seem to have this stupid belief that having a couple of pints will put you over the limit, it's not exactly hard to see where they got it from - that's what all the drink/drive ads say in this country. It IS possible, if you are a small girl and you down 2 pints on an empty stomach then drive immediately for 2 pints of STRONG lager to put you over the limit. For most people though it really won't.

To be at a 0.08 it will be immediately obvious to people around you that you are drunk.

It puts you legally over the limit but it won't make you 'immediately obvious to people around you that you are drunk' unless you are a child or otherwise inexperienced and unaccustomed drinker.

Your first link is funny because I have been well in excess of 0.2 but not exhibited those extreme symptoms ("difficulty walking, double vision, nausea, vomiting").

that rupissed is quite funny, i am not a heavy drinker but after an average session i get "You are probably unconscious" :D
