i hear there is a correct way to breath when running, not just the normal in and out but i mean breath at specific points? i heard in your nose out you mouth?

Whats the correct way to breath when running

At the risk of being glib, whatever works for you. I try to breath in and out through my nose until I find that I cannot get enough oxygen that way and then I end up breathing though my mouth so maybe I'm not the best person to ask but the way I see it what is the orthodox method(even if there is one here) doesn't make it the best for everyone.

Is this still for the RAF selection process(2.4km in 12 minutes)?

I used to struggle on how to breath, but was majorly unfit anyway.

As time passes you find your breathing pattern. One thing I would not do is huge deep breaths, keep it as a rhythm. Obviously increasing as you get more fatigued.

Complex question... let me offer the thoughts from my mind...

1) Don't run to the beat of a song, very likely to push you harder than is sensible...

2) Rumour has it that if you breathe with a certain rhythm of running i.e. breathe in when your right foot hits the floor, you will get stitiches or cramp. breathing rate and running speed should be independent, not that I can tell whether this is true or not...

3) Depending on what type of running you are doing, it may be a good idea to running speed on a point whereby you can talk comfortably i.e. you're not choking for air...

4) In through nose and out through mouth wont cut it as you get faster, it doesn't matter so much unless you are running next to a dual carriageway

I definitely find that thinking about my breathing rhythm is more trouble than it's worth. Concentrate on something else and allow your body to decide how and when to breathe - it works for me.
