Anybody ever tried breeding worms ?

I'm looking to breed some so i've a continuos supply of live food for my tropical fish.

Some people say i should just get a plastic box, some holes in the top plenty of soil and lob in all my kitchen waste to keep em happy and plenty of moisture.

Is it that simple ?

I can buy worms from my local fishing shop to get me started but for obvious reason i don't wanna keep buying them all the time.

Any help would be appreciated.

AFAIK you are only meant to feed fish that eat live food blood worms if any worm, and i dotn really see it being amazingly easy to breed blood worms they seem very specilist. is it not easy to just buy alod of them from somewhere?

What type of fish are they? Only larger species will eat earthworms, if that's what you want to breed. They're also quite fatty, which can cause health problems for fish if you feed them very regularly.

If you've got small tropical freshwater fish have a look on Ebay or in a fishkeeping magazine to see if you can find any whiteworm or grindalworm cultures. These worms are very small and are cultured on damp compost and fed on porridge oats. Very easy to culture and a good food for most fish.

i have an oscar, 3 Birchirs, 6 Rokeil Severums. Silver Dollars.

I know what im doing when it comes to feeding i'm not going to be feeding them just the worms.
