Brighton

it's full of self proclaimed hipsters with dwarven style beards that drink coffee brewed from rhinoceros semen and weasel hair.........................

I've lived here for 45 years. Brighton has been a minor seaside town for many years until recently when it was deemed trendy. Now it is mostly full of restaurants. It's only minor redeeming feature is the Pavilion but this is a tad dull and musty. There are plenty of pubs and night clubs which have no interest to me. It is a developing town with a city status. There is a lot of building works going on. It's often full of hateful tourists and flocks of students blocking the way. I much prefer Brighton in Winter.

I need some info about Brighton for an upcoming project. Having never even visited I'm totally in the dark but hoping some locals might be able to shed some light!

Looking for a bit of local knowledge on history, current trends, landmark places to go and anything start-up/technology/innovation that relates to the city to promote it to Europeans. Basically make it look and seem as awesome as possible.

Obviously I'll be DMOR as well but you can't beat a bit of local.

History - It was used as a middle class resort when it was just a fishing village (consisting of the Laines mostly), hence why the Prince Regent built the Pavilion there. There's also some ruins when the tide goes out of a 'Daddy Long Leg's' cart that ran along the seafront for a couple of years in the late C19th until it was destroyed by a storm.

The Laines are the streets which are adjacent to the beach, the North Lanes being north of them (across North Street), the North Lanes has better shopping imo.

Trends - moving down from London, inflating prices and gentrifying the place with even more coffee houses and pints that cost £6.

Landmarks - The Pavillion (a chinoiserie styled palace) and the i360 (donut on a pole style observation deck, tallest in the UK) with the West Pier ruins at the base are good to visit. There's also the Palace Pier, beaches, the South Downs and the Chattri.

As for tech related stuff it may be worth contacting somewhere like Wired Sussex.
