Bristol parking scheme

Aye... and I don't (think I) know a single one of them in person!
I've met and spoken to Karl and Kreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee several times at decent length - though neither for a while, now.

There was a big Bristol meet ages ago when I was mid-exams and I couldn't really let myself go to it. I attempted another mini one a couple of years after that which failed miserably! Popular, me! :D

I generally support it. There is a problem of people driving in and parking on residential streets. These people either (a) shouldn't drive in but instead take public transport, (b) use out of town parking then park and ride, (c) pay for parking in the city, (d) get their employer or provide parking...

The current situation sees the commuter parking for free and shifts the 'cost' of congestion, lack of space etc on local residents. That can't be right.

I'd personally give the first resident permit for free then start charging for 2nd and much more for third cars.

It's free if the first car is class A emissions-wise. Though what does that say to you - is this an emissions problem or a congestion/parking problem? Come on!

I'd accept free permits based on size - esp as two smartcars could fill a saloon or people-carrier's bay!

On similar but a bit ot, company that manages flats where I rent, recently contracted a clamping company and gave all residents parking permits. Now half of the car park is empty .

And recently sent letter saying that renting out your allocated parking spot is illegal . Seems a bit daft though as they gave you only one permit for your own vehicle, but any guests would end up using your permit, so what do about your own car? Wait for it to get clamped?
