Bristol: what to do?

Go for a walk around Clifton Village. Admire the views from Cabot Tower. Ignore the suggestion for Cribbs, it's too far out and Cabot Circus should be fine if you want to shop. Also check out St Nicholas Market.

Cabot Circus is THE place to go for shopping - stuff cribbs causeway! There's a cinema and a fair few places to eat round there.

Going for a wonder around Clifton is nice and you can have a meander around the suspension bridge.

This forum has a lot of Bristol posters. Have to wait until September until I reclaim my territory, sadly!

+1 for cabot being a better shopping centre than cribbs.

With that said I live 1 mile from cribbs though, so it's all very convenient.

Clifton is nice to visit, if you want a great view of the bridge there is a pub called the White Lion Inn just down the road.

Has an amazing courtyard which gives you great views, if you can handle the cold its worth visiting at night as you can see the bridge all light up.

Cabot Circus has a small german market on at the min, can get some mulled wine. Or if you fancy some mulled cider head to the Grain Barge, thats a nice little bar on a boat (I'd imagine Apple will do it as well).

Plenty of things to see, although for me its usually a tour of pubs :o

I go quite a lot for the weekend. Spend 1 day in Bristol - plenty to do in the city centre. Then go to Bath. I wouldnt bother driving to Bath, it's 11 minutes on the train and costs a few quid and takes you right into the centre. Bath is a wonderful town to walk around.

Yeah trains a good idea. Load of speed cameras on that road and parking in bath city centre is pricey.

Is there still a massive fair on around the main shopping area? When I lived in Bristol for a year, there were loads of rides scattered around the shops in small clusters but all within a few minutes walking distance of each other. Christmas 2000 / New Year 2001. Waltzer, Twist, Millennium, Rotor, Top Spin, Matterhorn to name a few.

Most of things have already been mentioned:

- Clifton Suspension Bridge
- Clifton Village
- Walk around the Downs
- SS Great Britain
- Cabot Circus shopping centre, (has a Christmas market at the moment)
- Blue Reef is ok but expensive, right next to Millennium Square which may be worth a look.
- Cribbs Causeway shopping centre, has an outdoor icerink over Christmas
- Museum is a good shout
- @ Bristol
- Walk around Bristol Docks

The only thing I can really think of to add is Cabot's Tower which offers some of the best views you can get over the whole of Bristol.

Aside from the Cathedral and St Mary Redcliffe those are the main tourist attractions of Bristol. You could do other stuff like visit St Nicholas' Market, go on a Banksy tour or boat trip, but in my opinion the above are more worthy attractions. The Matthew might be worth a look if it's knocking around.

As already mentioned if you can get into Bath do so, it's such a beautiful place, take the ladyfriend to Bath Spa, she will love it. (The Thermae spa, not the university :p)

Enjoy :)

+1 for Cabot being the better place to shop and to go to Bath. Bath is pretty rammed though currently due to the Christmas Market taking up what little space remained around the centre but it's still a much nicer place to wander around (lunch at The Raven too).
