It's pretty bad but this sort of stuff is just going to become more and more commonplace. Not sure I would even bother cancelling my cards unless I saw any fraud on them. Only ever pay with credit cards online so to be honest it's never my money at risk. I don't see why people make such a fuss. Don't use debit cards online.

I happened to log in during that period and paid for a flight so have now changed the password to everything from BA site, email address and also requested a new credit card completely. Annoying but it's done now at least.

Probably. They won't be the only company throwing sensitive data around in plain text.

A lot of these kind of hacks happen and either they don't even notice it, or keep it quiet. Assume nothing you give anyone over the internet is secure.

I’ve also had this happen, really disappointed especially since it’s been confirmed as name, billing address, email, full card number, cvv, expiry etc.

I did cancel my card with my bank that I had used although they advised I should just monitor but having all card details being involved I thought it was safer.

Just received their free 12 months of credit checking through Experian...I’ll sign up to it but it will be interesting to see what else they’ll put in place for customers affected.

Why is it if I google Experian ProtectMyID and go to that link through Google I don't get the "Join" button on the top right?

Link from BA email on the left, link through Google on the right.

Both are UK sites, but URL are different.

One looks to be specifically due to a partner site it seems. Doesn’t explain why the join part doesn’t come up on the other though.

I’ll likely sign up later today.

2 of my cards were compromised, very frustrating. I've been extremely loyal to BA over the years so fingers crossed they extend my membership/give me extra tier points :)

Wow sucks for anyone involved :(

So what happens in a few month or even further down the line when the list of data is sold on and everyone applies for payday loans?

Are BA gonna help out

I think it's pretty decent of them to fund fraud watch for their customers for 12 months. Most companies these days seem to just shrug their shoulders and accept a loss from existing customers going elsewhere.

I do think the government need to fund a campaign to advise people of some sort of best practices whilst shopping online. Using a credit card where possible has to be one of the best steps, because it's not your money that gets compromised.

I think that’s the issue here and probably the major concern for most, nothing immediately was bound to happen. Now the details have been syphoned off it’s what happens down the line.

BA do say nobody is going to be at a loss on the back of it but again how hard will they fight against something that happens 12-18 months down the line against an individual?
