If you go with infantry you really don't have a choice in what regiment you join after training, normally you just fill gaps.
You will most likely be based in England for 6 months at least fro your training and you'll find that most "Scottish" own regiments have a large proportion of Englishmen in them.
Any other part of the service and you'll most likely end up in England as that is where most regiment and training facilities are based.
Fitness wise, the number of people that turn up in poor condition and lie to the afco is quite high.
You want to be aiming for sub 10min 1.5 miles and be regularly running 5miles a week as their a hell of a culture shock between selection and phase 1.
Also bear in mind that they want stamina not massive muscles so do your running on road and paths ( I found my local forest best due to undulations on the path.). Also bear in mind that upper body strength is required in almost all the training and exercises, so work on your push up and pull ups.
I would also recommend working on toughing up your skin on your feet and back with long walk's as phase 1 can be a night mare with blisters and chaffing.
Your not going to be based in Scotland for a long time if that's your chosen trade. You'll be at a training regiment for a long time, and most likely be stuck in the battalion side and regimental armourers rarely come up. So youll most likely be at Colchester or somewhere worse...
I just been chating to a recruiter and the army is almost at capacity. Therefore, they'll be tightening there belts when it comes to recruitment.
.
That's a load of rubbish, the British army has a high turn over and has had this issue for many previous years. More people leaving than joining since the latest conflicts started.
At the moment the aac is so under staffed their trying to pull cpl's from all the basic regiments.
What he probably meant is the low turn over trades i;e dog handlers, and avionic technicians.
