British bacon.

I wouldn't go that far. Just a lot of 'English' food items are not the same at all :( I miss sausages, shepards pie, toad in the hole & a good roast dinner so much.

make some

theres plenty or recipes on the net and even guides on how to make your own sausages :)

That's what I keep thinking of doing. But trust me I am no Jamie Oliver!!! In fact I'm as good as saying I have the opposite in chef skills ;)

Food in general here is utter tripe.

My sister lives in Chicago and we have this discussion all the time. She can't believe that I'm not a vegetarian (or virgin as I see it), and cites all this rubbish about meat and what they do to food in general on your side of the Atlantic.

Whenever she comes to England and pops into somewhere just like Tesco, she's amazed at how good even their ready meals are, and the ease with which you can look at the nutritional values.

It's far easier to eat a healthy diet over here than the USA (though of course it doesn't always happen).

You have other things as well which don't help, i.e. it's far cheaper to eat unhealthly over in the USA (she says).

you don't need any skills, most recipes I have seen are pretty simple

shephards pie is extremely easy to make, infact its pretty hard to make it wrong

Muffins filled with sausages or bacon and cheese are simply gorgeous.

I do like a full english breakfast though, with a nice cup of tea.

Muffins? What like, blueberry, chocolate? I can see that tasting odd.

Everyone loves a nice fry up, mate just go to the butchers, mine imports meat on request, maybe yours does?

I do feel sorry for america though, can't get decent meat, cheese, beer. Breads always kind of chemically and sweet. I never did a huge amount of food shopping in america when I was over there but I was sort of shocked at how little decent stuff there was. And that I got funny looks when I used a tescos bag for life.

I agree, I try to avoid beef and pork as much as I can over here, Chicken and lamb( if i can find it) is all I eat. Ready meals are ****.

On the bright side though, I just decided to venture into an Indian grocery shop near me and it had a lot of british food in, brought a bunch of Aero bars, hovis, and some proper indian ready meals from Patak :D

Eating out here is cheap, i.e CiCi's all you can eat pizza for $2.99 and mcdonalds double cheese burgers for $1.00 but if you want anything decent it's just tosh.

I may use my return ticket and go back and load up two empty suit cases :D

Bread - Sweet, too small, tastes fake. Only good bread is natures own honey wheat.
Cheese - Crap, fake, dry, swiss and american - what's the point. only good stuff is Kroger brand sharp new york cheddar.
Meat - Either looks disgusting or tastes it, I keep getting chicken breasts which look purple. Beef looks like vomit and pork looks like sheet.
American cookies = Worse the british american cookies, also Maryland = WIN
Ready made meals - dont even bother, nothing will beat those delicious ready made tesco indian meals.
Baked beads - They are CRAP here, they put them in disgusting sweet sauce.

That's kind of a generalization though, it all depends on where you go. Some decent bars have a huge selection of beers from all over the world (and liquor stores), the best steak in the world is available at Ruths Chris restaurant, the amount of food available is mind boggling sometimes, you just have to know where and what to pick. I'll give you the bread one though (unless you get it from Panera Bread mmmm)

Patak's aren't too bad actually I had one the other day. I love international food stores. The random stuff you can get in there is immense! :)

Aye I know what you mean. All you can eat for $2.99? That's just gross!

A story comes to mind. There's a bar here in Liverpool where they used to serve shots of black Sambuca for £1. It was cheap and cheerful and we all knew it. They haven't served it in months even though other bars have plenty of stock. Apparently they're waiting for a supplier to provide them with goods "that they can sell for £1!. :p

My sister constantly gets my mom to bring up loads of PG Tips and Kit Kats!

Is it true that if you get just one nipple on TV in the US people are up in arms calling for peoples heads and complaining to the censorship board?

Probably, all the films are usually different versions, for example I saw sword fish was on so decided to sit down and prepare for topless halle berry and BAM she was wearing a bathing suit. I literally stood up and shouted WTF.

It's quite annoying, funny thing is, after 10pm ever channel going seems to have porn on.

So just to make sure I understood and read the whole thread correctly:

Ken want's to get hold of some good old British meat so he can stuff himself silly with it?

Just want clarification because, not being funny, it's open to mis-interpretation :D
