@Dan_P you should be able to order the stand alone thermostat without hub for £74 (discounted today).

Unit only can be had for £74 with installation is £140ish if memory serves me correctly.

So Mine been installed for a while now, only gripe I have is they bulb in my front porch looses connection quite easily dont really have the option to move the hub due to networking hardware location. will have to come up with a plan!

As a side note, I now have 5 bulbs, 2 with this pack, paid for one in the wife's name and used the referral link to get two more (one on my account and one on the wife's) being able to set a schedule is a big winner for us especially for the porch and outside lights. Just need to convince the wife we NEED and Hive thermostat now
