Hi fellas, I come to OcUK for ideas.

I beg of you, no trolling. But this plea is likely to be ignored since this is GD... :p

I am going to Rome tomorrow to visit family, long story short, the wine bar my brother introduced me to over there is run by his friend. When I visited last time I get on so well with Paolo he gave me a very expensive bottle of Italian red wine as a gift, the day before I left. Needless to say I was very grateful and would like to return the favour.

I would like to give him a gift - something particularly British. Idealy food or drink, and something reasonable enough that it can be bought in duty free shop at Gatwick south terminal (I am travelling with only hand luggage and any food related products brought in from outside would be confiscated if I was searched).

I know for a fact he does not like whisky, or really any alcohol apart from wine. So I think that's rather off the list, and obviously it would be a bit of an insult to buy an Italian wine connoisseur a cheap bottle of I-don't-know-what from the duty free equivalent of Bargain Booze...

Any ideas would be appreciated, but I fly out tomorrow morning!

Frozen pizza. <-- Had to get the trolling out of the way.

All I can think of is some nice British crystal glasses? Not entirely sure that'd go down well if he owns a bar... on the other hand if he owns a bar he'd be expecting to give more bottles of wine as gifts than receive gifts back...

A good English Sparkling wine, you should be able to find Nyetimber Classic Cuvee in various vintages for around £30 in duty free. Seriously, it's difficult to find a Champagne as good for that price, if at all.

Waitrose also sell it and it's currently on offer for £22 which is a fantastic bargain. (I took advantage and bought a case yesterday!)

A bottle of one our excellent English sparkling wines - they're winning lots of international awards these days, and I doubt they are easily available in Italy.

Yeah a nice nice sparkling wine or dare I say it, a few bottles of our finest (best in the world) cider. He will have never had anything like it before. :)

Good British wine, beer or cider..... you 've been given a few good suggestions already. As a little bonus include some Fortnum and Mason goodies.
