Linky dink.

Lap length is increased by 760m. Claims are that it'll add three new passing opportunities. I'll believe it when I see it. Though I seem to recall Mr Barrichello not having much trouble overtaking at Silverstone a few years back, so quite why they thought it needed dicking about with....

Its been 'dicked' about with because of MotoGP and the different safety aspects a track needs to meet bike racing standards. I must say I like the new layout, at least on paper. PRobubly going to the FIA GT race there in May that will be on the new layout to see what its like.

I think its more a case of Hill wants to revamp the track, build new pits, a bit science park and lot of other facilities for fans and motorsport as a whole, but because they havent got the money because the UK government doesnt give a **** they are stuck doing only half a job. I dont think hes against the layout at all, I think hes frustrated at not being able to do the full redevelopment he wants.

Can't picture where those images are taken from. What am I looking at? (Ob Silverstone, but which bit!)

In the first picture, imagine you are stood on a massive tower that is on the Abbey Chicane, looking towards the Beckets grandstand.

In the second picture, the light grey bit is the Maggots/Beckets complex, the new tarmac going left out of the picture up the top is down the national straigh, and the outline going vertically out the bottom of the picture is in the direction of the International straight, that goes to the hairpin at Abbey.

I think I can see Herman Tilke in one of those photo's... :(

Silverstone was a mess and really did need some work, but this arena smacks of 'infield section'. It'll lose it's character.

a slick tyre hasnt turned on it yet and yet uve written it off .... its that sort of attitude that saw donington fail.

Lets see what its like at the GT1 race in may... Infact im sure its been added to an R-factor track...

Silverstone lost its character when it lost Woodcote and they started turning left under the old Daily Express bridge! Prior to that seeing cars come into the only chicane added something and even before that, at full lock at over 150mph through the old Woodcote. Silverstone used to be super quick, I was there in the stand on the start finish line when Rosberg did his 160mph lap and walked around the old circuit many times and today it's a fence infested, sterile junk yard of a race track.

On a track surface still drying from rain the previous day....it's no wonder the McLaren mechanics once left a sign in his car saying "Keke, treat it like a virgin please"....:D

Some photos in F1 Racing this month of the progress - which is almost complete. The average speed has increased nicely from 144mph to 157mph and will take about 4 more seconds per lap than before.
