I've just moved into a house at uni and i have unfortunately been given the task of setting up broadband in our house.
It's been up and running for a few days now after many hours of stress, but i have a couple of questions to ask.
The connection is 10mb from ntl, and we have a netgear WGT624 router. it connects 1 computer wired, and up to 6 others wirelessly although only 3 on average are connnected at one time.
When downloading what kind of speeds should i expect? It seems to vary greatly from 30kb/s - 1.2mb/s. Is there a good speed testing application or internet site i could use?
And the second is using filesharing programs. 3 people in the house regularly use filesharring programs (BitComet in particular). I know people say they are bad and basically hog the connection. But why is this? and is there a way to limit the speed, because even if it is only 1 computer using it, it stops the rest of us from even accessing the internet. Thanks for any help guys.
