Oh I do realise how lucky I am :) Great ADSL connection and in probably the best location (UK) to be able to play on European and East Coast USA servers, I am spoilt for choice.

Console yourself with living somewhere it's warm and sunny compared to here where it's cold and grey ten months of the year ;)

Yeah ill take the crap ping ;)

Just upgrade to 50MB, your upstream will then be 1.6MB which will give you lower pings. I've had pings as low as 5 while playing TF2 on 50MB Virgin Media.

Ping is not related to bandwidth, you get good ping because you are using cable and not DSL.

Lots of dodgy info in here. Your pings won't be effected by going from 20mbit > 50mbit (despite the increased upload speed). On ADSL the only thing you need to worry about is enabling fastpath on your line (not interleave).

The issues regarding oversubscribed centrals are real though...sadly :/ The decent providers (especially decent LLU ones, such as Be) won't have this issue though.

its only partly false,
going from 20 to 50 does improve your ping, althou its not due to the speed increase.

the 50mb has no traffic management or anything, and usually less likly to be on heavy used lines, unlike the 20mb

When the new US link went live in 2005 or so while I was living in London I could play on East Coast Quake 3 server with a 67ms ping which was pretty awesome. Unfortunatly before long traffic picked up on the link and it went up to 80+ms.
