Hey,

As per my other thread, I have got a flat for work during the week and want to get a decent connection in there. Despite initially being told that I can only have a 2meg (average) connection by BT they have now installed the line and with the telephone number most places (including BT) are telling me that I can have 'upto' 16meg but can expect and average of 5-7meg.

BT couldnt explain why the massive difference in quotes other than suggesting that a telephone search is more accurate than a house number and post code search.

What I am wondering now is who to run with? Are they all pretty much the same and it's just down to price or are some better than others?

I do a fair amount of streaming, online gaming and downloading thus I wil be aiming for an unlimited package.

But who is the best and/or who should I avoid?

I should probably point out that I am unable to get Infinity in the property.

Lee

ps. I use Virgin Media at home so I have never really had to compare packages and/or companies.

I was with O2 for about three and a half years, they were great.

Ah... that is very good to hear as I have had a mobile phone with them for nearly 5 years now. It's due for an upgrade so I'll give them a call and see what they can do for me on both.

Interestingly, it is only a very short journey to the exchange.

I originally thought that perhaps the issue was because the building is listed, but my Dad, who has just upgraded to Infinity, was telling me that the BT engineer told him it's not about the building or the lines into the building it's more about the lines to the exchange.......

Though, being a Virgin customer since I was in my first flat (16 years ago) I don't really understand any non-Virgin related terminology.

*EDIT*

Plusnet seem to be the cheapest. What are they like?

PlusNet seconded - superb service and performance.

The following are solid:

Sky
Virgin
BT (although shocking CS)

Avoid TalkTalk like the plague.

Please look at the exchange before making a recommendation. He can't get Sky LLU, Virgin Cable, O2 LLU, etc.
