Broardband speed

Could someone please advise me on my speed test, im am on BT option3 and my speeds where fine untill i upgraded to the BT vision package and now my speeds seem very slow.

Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1847 kbps
Assured Rate Test: -provides background information.
Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 525 kbps

This seems to be a common thing with BT Vision.

Your IP profile's stuck at (or been reduced to) 2000kbps, when it should be at 6500kbps (or perhaps 6000kbps to allow for the assured rate profile...I haven't paid much attention to how that works).
I'd have expected the Assured IP profile to be higher too.

ring bt vision as its a stuck QOS session 0800 328 1605 or 0845 600 7030 (one free the other charged) & they will reset QOS. This is one of the main reasons I'm leaving BT as for one the dl speed is pants and since I got vision my gamining is now nil due to lag & stutter. I just have to get my mac, anyway enough of that ring vision & they will sort it for U.

with vision you get an assured rate which is normally your dl speed or profile say 6000kbs minus the 2000kbs vision needs hence leaving 4000 (or maxed out 500kbs for surfing). This is how it was explained to me anyway.

At the mo BT Vision is more hassle than its worth but for people that want an alernative to cable or sky its not to bad but topup TV is cheaper & with cheaper net deals topup TV fairs a lot better, poor BT grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I used to like them aswell.

Kev!

I'd expect it to be the other way round - the 2000kbps for the BT Vision will be assured (i.e. reserved across the ATM network), and the leftover is best effort for everything else.
Sounds crap though - if you're not using the BTV, you only get 4000kbps out of a line that does 6000kbps?

thats why I cant wait to get my mac as its mangled my line with BT india & poor connection due to vision aswell as QOS needing restarting every so often enta resellers appear to get my vote but need my mac first.

The barmy thing is I was explained all the same info from BT UK (Vision) & India (bt broadband tech)unless its a script but even speedtester.bt rubbish says the same. Its a sad day when such a once great ISP like BT has become Tiscali :(

Makes sense though given the way BT have to manage the ATM side of things as they would not want to be dynamically assigning the assured 2Mb path just when it was needed.

Going to make life interesting as more people go for the BT Vision product though :)

Not really - you could have an assured rate and 6000kbps profile. Maximum throughput is bound by the IP profile, but reserve 2000kbps and let the rest go at best effort.

Can expect a hell of a lot of complaining when users discover that getting their TV's going to reduce their service to "up to 6Mbps" (especially if you can't get full rate). Do BT point this out when you order?

Nah they tell you lies & you only really find out later on down the line when you have speed issues.

This is the general gist of things,

1. They run a test on the line to gain an assured rate which mine is 4500kbs (now trapped at 2000kbs).
2. BT set a reserve on your line for say when you use VOD & the QOS kicks in either dropping the line to the stable rate which BT requires ie 2000kbs or at full rate depending on traffic which allegedly 4000kbs.
3. BT do state that when ordering you will only have approx 500kbs of your connection to use when VOD is being accessed but who knows if thats true.

There are also some other hidden extras that BT dont tell you!!!

1. They Retrain your line :(
2. Switch Interleaving back on (for stability on VOD)
3. Deny there are any glitches with the box crashing
4. Switches the SNR flag on your profile that only wholesale can see to NO & this makes the snr rise. (at 16 now but line not stable anymore :'( )
