Broke my 980TI :( Any tips?

Well done OP for being honest and showing great integrity!
I wouldn't personally take a card apart as I'm not willing to take the risk in that I too would not return a card if it was clearly my fault. I would however try and get it repaired at my cost.

Someone else mentioned they returned a faulty mobo due to an "accident". THere are risks involved in fitting mobo's. I do personally see that as a little different - accidental damage is not the same as taking something apart. If I accidentally damaged a mobo while fitting it, again I would contact the company with the reason and would expect them to repair it or do a replacement at a reduced cost ( not full price) due to it being a risky item to fit. I expect the manufacturers expect some accidental damage to mobo's. Even being careful I've dropped one of the rear case plates on a mobo before luckily without any damage

Out of interest when did you get the corsair hg10 n980 bracket? You do know that they were recently recalled due to this very reason don't you?

Apparently the mounting solutions were wrong and bent the cards too much. They have been withdrawn from sale for quite a few months. I was going to get one but had to get a kraken instead.

It's a long shot, but would you have cause to take this up with corsiar, as their brackets were 'faulty' and not fit for purpose.

black screen with blinking underscore you say, sounds like windows is corrupt.
do you have more than one hard drive connected ? is it booting from the correct drive.

In the 24 hours since the original post, zotac have sold around 5800 graphics cards. I'm sure they'll be fine if you RMA it.

.

I did not know that, and it probably explains why it was so hard to find in stock. I ordered it about a week ago direct from Corsair though, so i doubt i got a bad one. I'll check into it anyway.

As for the integrity remark, i wasn't trying to start a debate but ty for the support on both sides of that discussion!

Principle is the same though - if people start abusing the warranty, etc. in the end it will just result in more restrictions, higher costs to the consumer, etc.

As seen by DSR changes.

Eventually AIBs will get fed up & team up with other electronics interests and push for a change in the returns laws.

Ah ok. I notice they are back in stock to buy direct from Corsiar. They haven't been available for at least 3 months though as I was looking myself. I would *hope* you got one of the new ones but you never know so it's worth checking. Did you card look 'bent' from the side?

Have a look on the corsair forum, this thread from the bottom onwards...

To be fair, with no comment from Zotac, no ones knows the real reason behind the faulty of the card.

It may not be caused by OP's action, and may just be a manufacturing fault developed spontaneously.

In my opinion, having integrity is different to blindly blaming yourself for everything.

Describe everything to Zotac objectively with plenty of photos to illustration what is damage, then Zotac will tell you whether you have damaged the card. Doing this is finding the truth, and is nowhere near abusing the system.
