Hey,

I accidentally broke something at work last week. Something in which we can't replace with an exact model.

Can work charge me for accidental damage?

Cheers,

Jon

It'll be docked out of your wages most likely. If they cannot fix it at all with their maintenance technicians, expect a gap in your pay for that week/month. Some companies are insured though, and won't take any/all of the cost from you.

I used to work in plastics manufacturing, and I busted a haul-off machine once, had 150 quid knocked off my wages.

Were you supposed to be using it when you broke it?
Can it be attributed to wear and tear?
Did you use it beyond it standard operating procedures?

Finally....Can you blame someone else?

It is a 37" LCD. Trouble is we have four identical units in which are EOL and can't be purchased new. :(.

Cost for replacement part is £1500 :o

Can't blame anybody else and I admitted to breaking the item.

im sure they wouldn't put all the costs of it onto you, unless of course this has happened before? clumsy are we?

if its insured it should be okay.

blame a foreign cleaner?
My god! Perfect! :D

Seems like the proper thing to do would be for them to replace it with a new model of equal or better specs, not faffing around trying to replace EOL'd junk.

would be very suprised if they make you pay for it. unless its a very small company and your boss is an ass. accidents happen.

In the name of the wee man, I hope that part is lovingly fashioned by virgins from platinum and encrusted with diamonds, rubies and emeralds.

You might want to point out to your work that you can just about buy 4 perfectly serviceable 37" TVs for that amount of cash.

I wouldn't have thought you could be charged a grand or more, as things that expensive should really be insured. Little things, say a hundred or would be more likely to see coming from your wage :(
