The other day my pc crashed (froze, black screen looping sound) since then every time I try and turn my pc on the screen lights up with dvi power saving mode then the led flashes.

I stuck my old 4850 in and it works ok.

Has the 6950 blown up? Or is there A fix?

Edit: it seems the pc boots into windows fine but with no display.

Edit 2: the card is an asus 6950 directcu 2, when the pc is off it has a red led on the back of the pcb which goes off on start up.

No it's not showing anything on the screen at all but the pc boots fine is what I ment :)

I.e I turn the pc on, monitor flicks to DVI power saving mode but the pc boots fine as I can hear windows start up through the speakers.

I have not tried in another pc yet, but as I said it had been working fine for about 3 months, do you think a rail on the PSU could die?

Does your 6950 have the dual bios switch? the same thing happened to me when I attempted (and failed) to flash the bios

It does but it does not have dual bios' it is for the DVI link output, I have tried both position 1&2 and the HDMI ports, same thin, the monitor comes out of standby with DVI power saving mode then goes black with flashing power led on the screen.

It's not a bios problem as have not tried to flash it.

Well as I said, I only got this problem when I tried to flash the bios, the problem is your card is not being detected by your motherboard, thus your monitor is not being detected, I could only boot with the monitor plugged into the on board gfx card and the PCI-E slot was not detected, neither was the card, I tried reinstalling all the drivers but I couldn't find a fix for it and I had to get a replacement

Shame it's old, otherwise you could RMA it. Looks like you'll have to buy another one, unless you know someone who's good with computers

Which component are you talking about?

We don't know the age of the PSU or motherboard and the HD 6950 can't possibly be old enough to be out of warranty.

This happened to me on my XFX 6950,although it started to happen after i changed the cooling to an aftermarket cooler,The VRM must have burned out or something it never worked right again with the same symtoms as your having.

ended up selling it on Ebay as faulty and got another 6950 and it works flawless now.

If you have no warrenty with the card you could try Baking it back to life?....worth a shot.

Because if it's old then it would be out of warranty so surely he'll just have to buy a new one.

I just double checked and he said it's only 3 months old, or it's been working for 3 months, so maybe he can still RMA it

Your idea of old must be different to everyone elses.

Even the very first HD 6950 sold is less than 12 months old.

As they all come with at least a 2 year warranty there isn't a single HD 6950 out there that's out of warranty unless the purchaser has done something to void it.
